Vorng, Tabitha's Kompong Som manager, spent Christmas in Australia - here to visit her cousins in Sydney and Brisbane. After a few days with her cousin, Pon Loh, in Cabramatta followed by Christmas with Jude and Doug Quarry in Port Macquarie, Vorng returned to Sydney on Boxing Day to stay with the MacDonald family for a few days. Her burning desire was to have photos of herself and the Sydney Harbour Bridge and then herself and the Sydney Opera House. Happy to oblige! We walked across the Bridge, climbed the Pylon, took the ferry to Watson's Bay for fish and chips from Doyle's and the walk around South Head, and back to the Opera House. Then repeat visits to see the Bridge and Opera House by night.
We were privileged to have Vorng's company for her time here - having the fun of sharing the sights of Sydney: a trip to the Darling Harbour Aquarium and the Sydney Fish Markets; local shopping in Chatswood; and a great reunion of our recent building group (at least those who were in Sydney at the time) - with lots of hugs for Vorng and the presentation of a photo album from the group as a memento of our time with her.
Vorng also enjoyed the chance to improve her English skills and we enjoyed the very evident improvement in a few days fast learning - just wished our Khmer was even a minute fraction of her English skills. We saw Vorng off on the plane to Brisbane where she stayed with her cousin there. We look forward to connecting up with one very special lady in Cambodia on our next building trip.
