One aspect of the show that was particularly exciting was the opportunity it gave to many local youngsters to be part of a top quality, professional performance. Simon and Emma organised groups of extraordinarily talented children and teachers from Plie', Groove and Shuffle dance academy, Stella Maris, St Paul’s and St Mary’s schools (all from Manly). His own singing students gave a performance that brought tears to the eyes. He was also joined by fellow members of the St Mary’s church choir.
The show ran over two nights. Friday night was near to capacity and Saturday night was sold out (350 tickets) with a queue of hopefuls at the door. Word spreads fast in Manly, and many of those queuing were Friday night spectators coming back for more!
The audience was entertained with a smorgasbord of musical styles including gospel, rap and opera (The 3 tenors!), amongst others. Equally varied were the dance items: jazz, tap, ballet and entertaining monologues and drama sketches.
Thank you to everyone who rehearsed, choreographed and performed in the concert. Also to everyone who helped with the advertising and publicity, as well as those who baked, packaged, set up and served refreshments.
An enormous thank you must go to the guest performers who generously gave their time and considerable talents over the two evenings.
Finally, thanks to Simon and Emma for all their weeks of hard work, coordinating, organising and rehearsing ( not to mention parenting!). Everyone was amazed by the diversity of Simon’s performing talents – his range of vocal styles, dance and even acrobatics! Roll on the next show!!
The evening raised in excess of $8,000 and the profits were generously donated to the Tabitha Foundation and Bear Cottage, Manly.
