Fundraising for BRTD Building trip.
As part of the Tabitha Foundation Australia volunteer house-building program, Derek Dryden, owner of Better Read Than Dead is putting together a crack team of BRTD booksellers and friends of the store to build 20 houses. Each team member must contribute the cost of a house and we still have room on our February 2010 build team for a couple of enthusiastic people with the ability to use a hammer and to actively fund-raise.
Each house costs us $1,500 which we will raise through donations and regular fund-raisers. The family who receive each house has to save $US25. On average it takes them three to four years.
We chose the Tabitha Foundation as all money donated to Tabitha is spent at the village level.
Of the project, Derek says,
"Last year I saw the impact that building a house has on the village – so this year I'm putting together my own team to build 20 houses. A house costs as little as $1500. Please help us make a significant difference to the lives of these families."
Each team member must contribute the cost of a house and we still have room on our February 2010 build team for a couple of enthusiastic people with the ability to use a hammer and to actively fund-raise. “The moment when we handed over our first house to the local family was one of enormous achievement and pride. I challenge you to keep a dry eye”.
Please help us raise our target of $30,000 by coming to one of our events.
